This is by far the best hotel in Merida, bar none! It does not have the glitzy fakeness of the larger hotels (which you pay for), but instead is an extremely pleasant place to stay, very economical and perfectly designed for the average person. Lots of hot water for showers in the morning, an excellent and friendly staff, a beautiful swimming pool, clean and comfortable in every respect. Restaurant is good for a hotel restaurant (after all, they are in the hotel business, not the restaurant business!) Perhaps the best feature: the hotel is an easy, pleasant eight-minute walk to the center of old-town Merida! If you want fancy architecture, you can find it about two miles east near the local WalMart, but if that's all you're seeking -- well, stay at home and go to an overpriced hotel in Phoenix or Miami or other tourist-infested places. If you want a real taste of the goodness and kindness of the Mexican people, the Del Gobernador should be your choice! I simply can't say enough good things about it! I wish every hotel I've booked into in my life might have been as nice as the Del Gobernador! The hotel is an undiscovered travel jewel! Wes
